Competition judges announced…

The judges for the EG07 game physics competition have been finalized.  All entries will be judged by the following panel, all of whom are independent of the EG07 organising team:

  • Jay Stelly, Senior Software Development Engineer with Valve .  In this Gamasutra article Jay talks about development of the physics in the seminal HalfLife2.
  • Matthew Wegner, Development Director of Flashbang studios and creator of the great www.fun-motion.com physics games review site.
  • Erwin Coumans, Senior Engineer with Sony Computer Entertainment R&D US, and developer of the open source BULLET physics SDK.

Many thanks to the judges for agreed to take part in the competition.  Each of the judges brings a unique perspective, from video game physics, causal game physics and middleware physics and we're delighted to have them on board.

New Forums open…

Thanks for your patience.  We've created a new set of forums and these are now online (based on simplemachines.org - which I have to say has been a generally nicer experience that phpBB, hats off to the guys at SMF). For future information regarding submissions you'll need to register on the forum.  Registration is not automatic, so there'll be a short delay before we get back to you (we're vetting each registration to prevent any further issues with SPAM), but this process shouldn't take any longer than 1 day.  The guest forum is open for general use.  To access the forums go here .

Forum SPAMMED!

Apologies for the issues with the forums.  The Spammers have attacked and have flooded registration on the forums, so we've had to take them down for now.  We're looking at alternatives at the moment and may default back to a simpler set of web-forms for registration of interesting in submitting to the competition.  In the meantime all important announcements will be made via this blog so no information will be lost.

Again apologies, and we hope service will be resumed shortly!

New Competition Forums

We have created a set of forums for discussing the physics game competition.  The main competition site will be used primarily for announcements and distribution of information.  The forums provide a means for interested parties to contact us and ask questions or indeed share ideas with others.

Any individual or team wishing to enter this competition must register with the forum first.  All information regarding submitting entries, uploading files, etc. will be distributed via the registered-user forum only (for the usual security reasons).

SCE US R&D support EG07 Game Physics Innovation Competition

Collada LogoWe're delighted to announce that Sony Computer Entertainment US R&D has agreed to provide support for the Eurographics 2007 Game Physics Innovation Competition.  SCE US R&D is supporting this by providing sponsorship of the main prize, a special Collada prize and additional funding to support the running of the competition.  We are indebted to Remi Arnaud, Chief Collada Conspirator and his team at SCE US R&D for this support.  Collada is particularly relevant for the development of physics in games, with its support for a physics interchange format and the many tools now available for creating content, and even specific tools for adding physics markup to existing content.  Here are some links for those interesting in pursuing the matter further:
