Wednesday, August 31st, 2005. 11:00-12:30
Beckett Rooms Walton Theatre
Lead Effects Animator, DreamWorks Animation SKG
Effects Lead Matt Baer will present some of the cutting edge techniques used to
give DreamWorks Animation SKG's latest animated feature, "Madagascar", its unique
stylized feel. He'll be discussing the CG systems and applications that were
implemented including - application of foliage motion that creates stylized
hand-modeled trees; creation of cartoony effects; production elements and
techniques employed to create an ocean; and a semi-automated footprint system
allowing for believable interactions giving great flexibility.
Matt Baer just completed his work as a Lead Effects Animator on the hit animated feature, Madagascar.
Baer joined PDI/ DreamWorks in 1999 and has been responsible for the effects animation and development,
clothing development and sequence effects for many projects at the studio. Some of his work can be seen in the popular Universal theme park ride, Shrek 4D,
the Academy Award-winning animated feature Shrek, and it's blockbuster sequel Shrek 2.
Prior to joining PDI/DreamWorks, Baer worked at Electronic Arts, Tippett Studio, and Alias|Wavefront.
He earned his B.A. degree in Business and Art from Westmont College in Santa Barbara.
