A 3D interface for image-based modeling

Original DV footage vs novel view
System setup, with cameras from the Vicon motion tracking system in the background

Image modeling is a very convenient way of creating visual content from existing objects or locations. The principle is to take photographs of a scene, obtain the corresponding registered camera parameters, and then use features of the scene to guide the modeling of its geometry.
We propose an interface that lets the user model directly in 3 dimensions using stereo display and motion tracking. This work was presented at Eurographics (2006).
